https://www.k-state.edu/sfa/aid/scholarships/future-students/ K-State is a test-optional school for admission starting in fall 2021, most general university scholarships and awards still require test scores for eligibility. The university is currently in the process of developing a scholarship program for incoming domestic freshmen who are admitted without test scores. In the meantime, it is highly encouraged to submit your test scores if possible to secure the fastest notification of an award. You can send in updated test scores through April 30 of your senior year to maximize your scholarship amount.

Applying for Admission and Scholarships
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to limit the opportunities for students to take the ACT and SAT exams. Applicants applying directly from high school for fall 2021 will be automatically considered for merit-based aid based on information collected from the application for admission. Efforts will be undertaken to ensure equity in award values for those admitted with or without a test score. The priority deadline for submitting an application is December 1. Students admitted by December 1 have until April 1 to provide updated test score and/or 7th semester grade information for scholarship reconsideration. In addition, students can apply for additional financial aid by filing the FAFSA by KU’s priority deadline of December 1.

If a student applies by our Nov. 1 Early Action application deadline, they’ll obtain early access to the following: financial aid notification if they file the FAFSA by December 1, on-campus housing selection (first come, first serve), Orientation registration, and KU swag.

As a reminder, we encourage all students to apply. Starting with 2021 applicants, KU has new assured admission requirements, including a test optional path, which means students are automatically admissible to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the School of Journalism, School of Music, or the School of Social Welfare. If a student does not meet one of these requirements, please encourage them to apply for a holistic review of their application.

  • 24 ACT (1160 SAT) and 3.0 cumulative GPA OR
  • 21 ACT (1060 SAT) and 3.25 cumulative GPA OR
  • 3.4 cumulative GPA, regardless of test score

The University Honors Program is no longer requiring test scores for consideration in to the Honors Program.  honors.ku.edu. For students who have already applied to the Honors Program, they will begin reviewing in October.

The School of Engineering has added a test optional path for admission. If a student is applying to the School of Engineering without a test score, an official transcript is required so the student’s classes can be reviewed. More information can be found here:

The KU Office of Admissions, along with the School of Business, School of Engineering and University Honors Program, want to connect with you. We are offering two virtual Counselor Events so you can learn more about the many updates taking place at KU. Dates and registration are listed below. We hope to see you on Zoom in a few weeks.

McPherson College:  admissions@mcpherson.edu.  Schedule a campus visit by calling 800-365-7402.  They over a Presidential Scholarship which is available, they offer up to $23,000 per year for four years ($92,000). U.S. News & World Report voted them Best College in the Midwest.  More information available in the school counseling office counselors@mcpherson.edu.

NCK Tech – North Central Kansas Technical College offers 23 programs of study offered on their two campus locations, Beloit Campus and Hays Campus.  In October and November they are offering Transportation Technology days, Construction Program Days, and Health Program Days.  Their scholarship deadline is January 15, 2021.  www.ncktc.edu

Wichita State: has a large number of scholarships www.Wichita.edu/scholarships listed on their website for students interested in attending Wichita State.  They have many competitive scholarships for Engineering, Business, Teaching, and Fine Arts.  Seniors interested in going to Wichita State come see the school counselor for scholarship opportunities.  All scholarship competitions applications open up September 2020. 

HSF Wichita State scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree.  Scholarships are available on a competitive basis.  Awards are based on merit.  Minimum 3.0 GPA.  US Citizen or Permanent legal resident, DACA or eligible non-citizen as defined by FAFSA. 

Wichita State - any senior that’s interested in majoring in Math or Science Teacher Education, please be aware that the Doris and Ralph Klose Scholarship Competition at Wichita State offers specific scholarship opportunities worth up to $20,000!
